Overture

Overture is a lightweight web app available at www.Overturenation.com. It gives people who are in the same place at the same time a way to signal that they are open to starting a casual conversation. Once two people send and accept an invitation to talk, the app is done and they can put down their phones. Our mission is to get people talking in real life, and thus create a friendlier society. The app is free to users and does not require confidential personal information. It takes about 30 seconds to sign up. All users need to submit is a first name, selfie and phone number, which is never shared. There is also an optional conversation prompt, ""I came here because ...," and an option to provide social media handles. There are no algorithms and we do not sell data.
